European Greens:

Ahead of next week’s EU Council, the European Green Party urges European Union leaders to call for an immediate ceasefire to end the loss of life in Gaza.

In the meantime, the EU must immediately increase humanitarian aid to people in Gaza, some of whom are dying of starvation, and living in inhumane conditions. The intentional use of starvation as a weapon of war is a war crime.

The European Green Party reiterates its call for an end to the violence, for the blockade on Gaza to be lifted, and for peace talks to be re-started, with a view to working towards a two-state solution. We demand the unconditional release of all the hostages and reiterate our strongest condemnation of Hamas terrorist attacks. The European Union and its national governments must keep the international pressure as high as possible on the Israeli government to make sure it refrains from launching an offensive on Rafah, and that it ends the blockade on Gaza and allows food and goods in.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for cessation of violence in Gaza, the release of hostages by Hamas and for the ‘delivery of lifesaving aid at the speed and massive scale required’.

The European Greens have been calling for the end of all violence and for working towards a two-state solution since October and we will continue to do so until a permanent ceasefire is in place.

In January, the UN's top court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), has ordered Israel to take measures to prevent and punish direct incitement of genocide in its war in Gaza.
